Silver State Athletic Center in conjunction with the Volleyball Academy and Capital City VBC offers training classes for those looking to improve their coaching skills.

Topics to be Covered:

  • How to teach the six basic skills effectively
  • Drills to refine basic volleyball techniques
  • Developing an offensive and defensive system
  • Identifying player positions
  • Practice planning and organization
  • Training a setter
  • Competitive drills for winning
  • Breaking your season into training cycles
  • Special skill sessions for coaches

Classes will be taught by Steve George

» Former college assistant coach at USC, Arizona State, Univ. Of South Florida and UC Santa Barbara.

» In his Club coaching career, has coached nine teams from four different clubs-Cal Jrs., Florida Goldcoast, Santa Barbara YVA and Capital City/Silver State-to top ten finishes at the U.S. Junior Olympic National Championships.

» Club coach of the team captain for the 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000 U.S. Women's Olympic Volleyball team.

» Named by Volleyball Magazine one of the "Top Ten Club Coaches in America." (1990 article)

» Has assisted more than 200 athletes in attaining college athletic scholarships.

» Has developed/coached five USA Volleyball All American setters; every club setter he has ever coached started as a freshmen on their college team, including All Conference UNR setter Tristin Adams.

» Has developed/coached twenty USA Volleyball All American players.

» Coached 2002 Capital City (Silver State) 17-Gold team from Carson City, Nevada to third place at the U.S. Junior Olympic National Championships. Team also qualified for Junior Olympics in 2001, becoming the first and only team from Northern Nevada to ever qualify for the U.S. Junior Olympic National Championships.
